Secret Teachings

Who & where the transformative Secret Teachings began are lost in the mists of time. Regardless I have been studying myths, legends, mystery schools and inner teachings of various cultures for 50+ years. It has been a variable feast.
The Secret Teachings have seen great empires & cultures rise, fall & rise again..... but the Secret Teachings remain. All great cultures have found ways to preserve & transmit the Secret Teachings to the next generation.
People often ask me well, if the Secret Teachings are so good, powerful and transformative why are they kept secret for initiates ONLY? The answer is multifaceted. Not everyone is ready for such knowledge, nor could they use it if it were available to them. The Secret Teachings cannot be understood fully, until & unless, one is fully prepared & is mature enough, not just in years but emotional & spiritual maturity to comprehend the Secret Teachings.
The Greeks took years to prepare candidates for the inner mysteries thru a series of stages. All of the ancient Greek authors & sages who passed thru the mystery schools agreed that the Secret Teachings of inner mysteries were transformative and that they led more fulfilling lives after transmission.
Today we admire the Greeks for all they have bequeathed us in art, science, mathematics, mythology, poetry, music, architecture, democracy & culture. All of this and more flowed from their deep understanding & implantation of the Secret Teachings in their personal lives & culture.
The Greek myths are so powerful they are still studied & taught in our own time. They form the basis of several branches of psychology today. They were also the outer mysteries. They were the Greek primer for the mystery schools Secret Teachings.
The Secret Teachings played a pivotal role in the founding of the United States. There were ultimately five dominant and guiding spirits behind the Constitution - Washington, Franklin, Randolph, Jefferson and John Adams. Of these, the first three were active Freemasons, but men who took their Freemasonry extremely seriously - men who subscribed fervently to its ideals, whose entire orientation had been shaped and conditioned by it. And Adam's position, though he himself is not known to have been a Freemason was virtually identical to theirs. When he became president, moreover, he appointed a prominent Freemason, John Marshall, as first Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.
As a point of information, the Pilgrims did not found the United States; they founded a small colony that eventually got swallowed up by the states and the newly formed federal government.
The belief that the Mayflower Compact was the basis for a Christian nation has caused many to attempt to reestablish what never existed: a Christian nation based upon Biblical precepts and founded upon a covenant relationship with God. What is overlooked is that the Mayflower Compact reaffirmed loyalty to the King of England; its framers never intended to found an independent state.
The Declaration of Independence broke with both England and the King -- the founders wanted a different form of government as well as freedom politically & spiritually. Nine signers of Declaration of Independence were known Masons & five signers of the Constitution were Masons - a few were both Masons & Rosicrucians. THE ONE THING THE FOUNDERS KNEW THEY DID NOT WANT WAS ANY STATE SPONSORED RELIGION.
As for the necessity & prudence of emotional & spiritual maturity when using the Secret Teachings for national change I offer the Marquis de La Fayette - a passionate Mason & 20 yro Major-General in the Continental army. He served with great distinction under the guidance of Washington (age 43) [mature physically, emotionally & spiritually] & other top mature leaders. In fact, WITHOUT La Fayette we could not have won the war -- yet just 6 yrs later in the French Revolution the now 26 yro La Fayette could not prevent that Revolution from devolving into a bloodbath & chaos. Personally Jefferson had expected the French Revolution to go as the American Revolution had (especially with La Fayette as a main leader & force) - Jefferson was appalled at the out come [but all of that is a topic of another article].
Nor did mystery schools disappear in the last 3 centuries. The Masons, Rosicrucians, Theosophists, Yogis and many other groups both secret & open continue to teach & refine the Secret Teachings.
The New Thought movement of the early 20th Century taught the Practice of the Presence of God for Practical Purposes and was primarily a movement of the printed word teaching a precursor of Matrix Energetics.
Do these Secret Teachings actually lead to happier & more fulfilled lives. In my own experience as first a deep student & now a Teacher of these things I believe they do.
